We are excited that you are interested in dedicating your child! At NorthPointe, we believe children are a precious gift from God, and child dedication is a meaningful step for parents to publicly commit to raising their children in a Christ-centered home. During this service, parents affirm their desire to lead and spiritually nurture their child with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, while the church family commits to come alongside them in support.

As part of this process, families will attend a Child Dedication Class & Lunch. In this time together, we will discuss the meaning of child dedication, walk through the commitments you will be making, and introduce you to our Family Ministry Team. Please note that attending the class does not obligate you to participate in the dedication; it is simply an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and prayerfully consider this commitment.

Common Questions

Is child dedication the same as infant baptism?
No. Child dedication is not baptism and does not save your child. We do not believe it is biblical to baptize infants or unbelieving children. Instead, child dedication is a commitment by parents to raise their child in a Christ-centered home and a commitment by the church to walk alongside you.

According to our Statement of Faith, Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his faith in the final resurrection of the dead.

Is child dedication necessary for salvation?
No. Child dedication does not bring salvation to your child. Salvation comes only through personal faith in Jesus Christ.
What can I expect during a Child Dedication service?
During the service, your family will stand on the stage before the church, and a pastor will ask you a series of questions about your commitment to raise your child in a Christ-centered home. You’ll affirm those commitments publicly as a way of declaring your desire to honor God in your parenting. The church family will also be invited to affirm their role in supporting you and praying for your child.
What will parents be asked to affirm?
Do you recognize your child as a gift of God, and give heartfelt thanks for God's blessing?
Do you dedicate your child to the Lord?
Do you commit as parents that you will bring up your child in the discipline and instruction of the Lord?
Do you promise to give your child every possible benefit of home, of education, and of the church?
Do you ask God's blessings upon your child's life, to guide, guard, and direct your child through all his or her years?
Who can participate in child dedication?
Married couples (one man and one woman) and single parents are welcome to participate. If parents are living together, we ask that they be married according to the biblical definition of marriage (husband and wife). Single parents may dedicate their children as long as they are not living with a partner.
At what age can a child take part in a dedication service?
While most families choose to dedicate infants or toddlers, dedication is available for children of all ages. If your child is older, the dedication still represents your commitment to raise them in a Christ-centered home.
Do I need to be a member of NorthPointe to dedicate my child?
You do not need to be a formal member of NorthPointe, but we do ask that you regularly attend and consider NorthPointe your church home. This ensures you and your child will be connected to the community that is committing to walk with you.
