CHURCH HISTORY

"Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations."

Pslam 90:1

Our Beginnings

Over the Years

Founded in 1882 as Missionary Baptist Church, our congregation has always been deeply rooted in faith and service. Early worship services were held twice a month, often on Saturdays, reflecting the dedication of its members. Over time, the church’s mission evolved, leading to a name change to Joshua Baptist Church and later incorporated as First Baptist Church of Joshua in the late 1960s. In 2010, the church embraced a new identity as NorthPointe - First Baptist Joshua, reflecting a fresh vision while staying true to its mission of serving God and the community.
From humble beginnings, the church has experienced remarkable growth and transformation. Early milestones include the dedication of the first building in 1906 and the shift to weekly worship services in the 1930s. Major expansions followed, with a new building dedicated in 1968 and the Family Life Center added in the 1980s. In 2000, the church purchased 143 acres on Highway 174, laying the groundwork for its relocation to the current property in 2010. Each step of this journey has been marked by God’s faithfulness and the dedication of a committed congregation.

A Heart for Missions and Community

Reflections and Milestones

Missions have always been central to the church’s purpose. From backyard Bible schools to impactful Vacation Bible School programs, NorthPointe Church has shared the Gospel while fostering a love for service in every generation. The church has also embraced ministries that meet diverse needs, such as music programs, a homebound ministry, and outreach to senior saints. These efforts have created a legacy of worship, fellowship, and care for the community.
Throughout its history, NorthPointe Church has been shaped by faith, perseverance, and a commitment to God’s work. Members remember cherished traditions like church suppers, weekslong revivals, and a 24-hour prayer room that unified the congregation in prayer. The decision to relocate to the current property in 2010 was a turning point, made possible through God’s provision and the faith of leaders and members alike. This moment exemplified the church’s guiding principle: “Honor the past but build for the future.”

Vision for the Future

NorthPointe Church looks forward with faith and purpose, striving to expand its impact in the community while deepening discipleship and fostering worship. The church remains committed to nurturing the next generation, serving those in need, and creating opportunities for spiritual growth. Guided by God’s provision, the congregation will continue to honor its rich history while embracing the opportunities ahead, always seeking to glorify His name.
